- Reading Group: No Shortcuts: Organizing for Power in the New Gilded Age by Jane McAlevey
Reading Group: No Shortcuts: Organizing for Power in the New Gilded Age by Jane McAlevey March 12, 2025 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm The Stray, 4253 Division Ave S Suite A, Grand Rapids, MI 49548, USA RSVP Join us on Wednesdays, February 26, March 12, & 26, to discuss No Shortcuts: Organizing for Power in the New Gilded Age, by Jane McAlevey. This book has become indispensable for activists since its release in 2016. Focusing on the labor movement in the US, No Shortcuts presents a strategic plan for seizing working class power from the capitalists and their government benefactors. McAlevey demonstrates the failures of strategy that underpin the dominant approaches. Many organizations focus on advocacy or mobilizing and neglect true organizing. We must come together and decide for ourselves what our goals are. There are no shortcuts for our movement. Organizing strategy must prioritize taking and holding power, first and foremost. The status quo is not written in stone. McAlevey presents a strategy, along with practical tools and tactics that lend clarity to the path of class struggle and liberation. This is an opportunity for anyone and everyone interested in what it takes to usher in a better world. We will be exploring the mechanics of how organizing unleashes working class power. See you there! See more details
