The Grand Rapids DSA working groups act as the bones and muscles of the organization. You can find information about the three different working groups that meet regularly below. All events will be available to view in the events calendar.
Housing Working Group
Housing is a human right. We work in coalition with other housing groups to advocate for safe, affordable housing to be accessible to those earning thirty percent and below Area Median Income.
The GRDSA Housing Working Group is in place to help folks navigate the current challenges of housing in Grand Rapids. This includes homelessness, tenant’s rights, and the accessibility and affordability of low-income housing.
We aim to form coalitions with other housing organizations to enact major change and to push the city to invest in the people. Our goal is to create and promote programs that give people not only the basic necessities of life, but the chance to feel like a part of their community. These programs include but are not limited to land trusts, rental assistance, and community resources.
Political Action Working Group
The Political Action working group engages in community led efforts to support civics based action. Our pillars of focus are social justice and procurement/empowerment for those in need. Organizers in this working group are passionate about their local communities. We strive to help the working class and other oppressed peoples seize power over their material conditions through praxis.
Outreach Working Group
The Outreach working group dedicates itself to the growth of the chapter and cohesion of its members. We meet regularly to coordinate our efforts and are primarily concerned with promoting events and getting our message out through our newsletter, website, and social media.
The Steering Committee is made up of elected representatives that maintain the integral activity of the organization. They discuss the progress and future goals of the Grand Rapids DSA, and ensure the organization is growing to improve the effectiveness of local actions.
